The Southeast Arkansas Educational Service Cooperative hosted a junior and senior high chess tournament last Saturday where McGehee Junior High’s very own Clayton Anderson (7th grade - pictured on the far right) walked away with the 1st place trophy for the junior high division. Clayton finished the tournament at an impressive 5-0, beating two of his opponents in four moves using the “fool’s mate” strategy. Clayton was not the only McGehee Owl to share in the spotlight. Classmates Mary Burdan and Deacon Miller finished 3-2 overall, placing in the upper ranks of the junior high division. Congratulations to all junior owls that participated in this event!
