The UAMS-led AR SAVES (Arkansas Stroke Assistance through Virtual Emergency Support) program visited Conner Junior High Students on Tuesday, April 28, 2016. Faculty and students were taught how to recognize signs and symptoms of a stroke, such as facial drooping or an uneven smile, arm numbness or weakness, and slurred speech or difficulty speaking or understanding speech. To remember the signs and the importance of getting to a hospital immediately, students were taught to think FAST — Face, Arm, Speech and Time. An anatomically correct inflatable model of the human brain (Mega Brain) was presented which allowed students and faculty to tour the walk-through brain exhibit.
