The McGehee School District covers a land area of over 525 square miles. The unions of the former Arkansas City School District, Delta School District and Tillar School District with the McGehee School District make up the district.
The McGehee School District provides the educational development and enrichment for over 1200 pre-kindergarten through twelth grade students. We are large enough to be efficient. Yet, we are small enough to be effective.
The McGehee School District is nestled in the southern most part of Desha County along the “Mighty Mississippi River.” While we are a rural school district, we pride ourselves on providing our students with a rich and challenging curriculum. We also expose them to an array of extracurricular academic organizations, as well as athletic participation and activities. The technological experiences and opportunities we afford our students are second to none.
The McGehee School District is fully accredited by AdvancED, a national accrediting agency. The McGehee High School and McGehee Elementary School are both classified as “Achieving Schools” by the Arkansas Department of Education.
Interstate highways 65 and 278 pass through McGehee, as well as The Union Pacific Railroad. Employment opportunities are afforded by ClearWater Paper Industries, Harvest Rice, Riceland Foods and various farming and agriculture related businesses. If you are ever in the area, stop by and see us. We will be glad you did, and you will too!!
