McGehee Elementary celebrated Arbor Day on Monday, October 16, 2017. Mrs. Christy Binns and her Gifted and Talented classes applied for a STOP Grant, Shade Trees on Playgrounds. The STOP Grant provided the elementary school with 5 trees and Mayor Owyoung donated 2 trees so each grade could name and plant a tree. In attendance for the celebration were Smokey the Bear, Mayor Jeff Owyoung, Judge Jack May, Representative Mark McElroy, Senator Eddie Cheatham, and members of the Arkansas Forestry Commission. The MHS Band played the Star Spangled Banner and grades K-2 sang "If I Were A Tree" and winners of the 2nd and 5th grade art competition were announced.
