7th and 8th grade students recently had the opportunity to watch the movie, Hidden Figures, at Malco Theaters in Monticello, AR.

Hidden Figures is a biographical film that focuses on the African American women who worked in the segregated West Area Computers division of Langley Research Center and their work orchestrating "the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation's confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world," says film reviewer for Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie incorporates literacy, history, science and career development. Each 7th and 8th grade teacher will incorporate a component of the film during Black History Month.

Mrs. Carter's 7th grade Pre-Ap Math classes completed a space mission activity to explore the knowledge and communication necessary to bring astronauts home safely.
